As I was checking a few things totally unrelated to this, it dawned on me that once upon a time, I heard a Kanye mention the Gap. Perhaps I misinterpreted his message, but it didn’t sound altogether positive. It went something like:
Let’s go back, back to the Gap
Look at my check, wasn’t no scratch
So if I stole, wasn’t my fault
Yeah I stole, never got caught
They take me to the back and pat me
Askin’ me about some khakis
But let some black people walk in
I bet they show off their token blackie
Oh now they love Kanye, let’s put him all in the front of the store
Of course we know he was only speaking of employees at the specific location in which he worked (probably in Chicago). We know that he was young and broke and would never steal khaki’s as a Gap Intern, now that he’s rich and humble. However, there is still a level of irony there and I find it quite amusing.
