A Dreaming Grape – Jordan “Grape” 5′s

Dreaming-Grape-Mockup-(update)I’m doing much better at keeping up with release dates these days and that includes the Jordan 5′s coming out on the 4th, known as the grapes. These shoes are definitely a hyped shoe, with one their most notable appearances being on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I was so glad the young kids weren’t successful at renaming them the Fresh Prince’s. They tend to not know the origin of the sneakers they seek after, which is another topic entirely. However, it’s always cool to watch one one of your favorite shows and see some of your favorite sneakers in OG form.

tumblr_mkwpx7Z64z1qhd0yjo1_500I absolutely LOVE this design. You may or may not have noticed that I kind of have a thing for design parodies and when the concept arose to parodize (yes, that’s a word now) Bape, I got excited. As you can see Sheepy has become Shape? Baby Shilo? I don’t think any of those names are clever, but he’s been redesigned in Bape like form. He’s rocking the 5′s and is joined by his friend Grape. There really isn’t much more to it than that. It’s simple, to the point, and up for presale in the store right now.

cd-coverRemember when the Bape characters were everywhere beginning with Pharrell’s first solo project, In My Mind? Well I found a Bape character generator if you would like to relive that time in honor of the new tee. Go get Baped here

Mayer Hawthorne

I love when I discover a new artists (real artist)! It’s like a mini version of Christmas in my ears……

So Alicia Keys tweeted about this guy a few months ago and I listened to it and thought oh that’s cool and old school. I totally forgot about the song, the guy, and whatever I had listened to until I was searching through my video history on my iPhone and found it again. I must have been out at the time I listened to this on my phone because  that’s the only way I would’ve over looked this dude. He’s Mayer Hawthorne and his style is straight out of the Detroit based Motown days of the 50′s and 60′s. I have to explain that I am a HUGE fan of Motown music. I have spent countless hours looking up “forgotten” Motown artists and reading up on Motown history. I also have a mild obsession with all things vintage (hence the name Tecknicolor) including music; my iPod is full of everything from Stevie Wonder to Frank Sinatra. Well, as I was looking Hawthorne up I discovered he’s from MI too! It doesn’t’ get any better than that; so this guy has become one my new favorite artists. I’m going to have to see him live next time he’s in town.

This track, “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out”, was released on a red heart-shaped 7 inch vinyl single. Since Hawthorne is also a DJ, I’m sure he was paying homage to the originator of the heart-shaped vinyl, Bobby Caldwell. He released the single “What You Won’t Do For Love” on a 10 inch heart-shaped vinyl, which my oldies loving aunt owns. I now think  that heart-shaped vinyl is the coolest thing ever.

Where's My Shirt?

100_4227

So I made this shirt back in 2003 for Alicia Keys because, Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life is her favorite album. She wasn’t speaking to any of us because she was on voice rest. I remember being bothered by that, but I understood of course , lol…. Anyway, I’d really like to know where this shirt is now. Actually…. what do celebrities do with all the crap they get from everyone; fans gifts (like stuffed animals), clothing lines pieces and  people wanting them to promote them, candy that they probably don’t eat because it could be some crazed fan trying to poison them? I remember seeing on Cribs that Mariah Carey has a room full of stuff fans give her. I keep mine in storage actually (what, I can’t have fans?).

akandmeI look lit….maybe I was sleepy.

The Aaliyah Movie

f_aaliyahjjm_cee485b

There have been reports that Warner Brother Films will be creating a movie about Aaliyah, who died in a plane crash in 2001.  Bill Condon, director of “DreamGirls” will be directing the film. Canadian singer Keisha Chante is to play Aaliyah.

“We are going to great extremities to make this movie perfect. We have Chante in extensive training studying, speaking with family members, watching personal footage and in choreography training with Aaliyah’s choreographer and dear friend Fatima Robinson. This movie will be seamless the same way it was for Selena fans who enjoyed Jennifer Lopez. I can promise Aaliyah fans that this movie will be ten notches higher.”

A source for the film reveals that they “will be going very deep into Aaliyah’s life” and will allow fans to see the “most intimate side of Aaliyah’s legacy.” Sources say the script for the film ‘holds no bars’ and will go as far as touching on the subject of Aaliyah’s highly debated and publicized marriage and annulment to producer R.Kelly.

It has also been confirmed Aaliyah’s colleagues will be featured in the film. Her choreographer Fatima Robinson, Producer and friends, Timbaland, Missy Elliot, Ginuwine, even world renowned music video director Hype Williams will be apart of the film and help re-create the “Rock The Boat” video set which was the last video Aaliyah ever shot. The movie is tentative to start production end of March and is rumored to have a production budget of over 80 million dollars.

I actually used to want to be Aaliyah when I was younger. I cannot begin to explain how deep the infatuation went. All I wore was Tommy Hilfiger. I’m still mad that I never got the red and blue pants she wore in the commercial and in the ads and that my mom wouldn’t let me wear mens boxers under my jeans so the band could show. I also own an unusual amount of leather, including both the fitted and baggy leather pants she wore in “Are You That Somebody” (it won’t let me post it in here) and “Try Again”. The outfit was Gucci in the “Try Again” video and I wanted the belt (when would I ever wear that?). I remember accusing my cousin of lying when she called me to tell she had just died. She is the only celebrity I’ve ever cried over.

The Gap Intern: Kanye (Realization)

gap_logo

As I was checking a few things totally unrelated to this, it dawned on me that once upon a time, I heard a Kanye mention the Gap. Perhaps I misinterpreted his message, but it didn’t sound altogether positive. It went something like:

Let’s go back, back to the Gap
Look at my check, wasn’t no scratch
So if I stole, wasn’t my fault
Yeah I stole, never got caught
They take me to the back and pat me
Askin’ me about some khakis
But let some black people walk in
I bet they show off their token blackie
Oh now they love Kanye, let’s put him all in the front of the store

Of course we know he was only speaking of employees at the specific location in which he worked (probably in Chicago). We know that he was young and broke and would never steal khaki’s as a Gap Intern, now that he’s rich and humble. However, there is still a level of irony there and I find it quite amusing. Original Story here.

The Gap Intern: Kanye West?

kanye-louis-vuitton

I don’t know how much of this is true, but it’s rumored that Kanye West is secretly interning with the Gap. This was reported by Us Weekly, saying “He works all the time, and one Friday night recently, he stayed until 12 am. He’s learning the fashion business from the inside and trying to do it quietly.” I can’t say that I would take this approach to fashion, if I was in such a position as Kanye West. I mean, he has his own line of Louis Vuitton sneakers for goodness sake. However, I can say that I respect the sincerity and almost humbleness (if you can use that word when referring to Kanye) of the decision to not start in a top position based on status. This is the basic concept of learning anything or reaching success in most capacities. In order to gain a real and complete understanding of things it’s best to see them from the lowest end of the spectrum……I can’t help wondering if this is why it’s taken Pastelle so long to drop. Does he feel he needs a little more experience?

Ok so, with that being said…. I too am willing to start at the bottom of Pastelle. Put me on Mr.West!

Melanie Fiona

I love it when Canadians have soul! My friend put me up on this new artist and I’ve been listening to songs by Melanie Fiona for a few months now, via you tube. She just recently released the official video for “Give it to me Right” which is what I assume to be the first single off of her upcoming album “The Bridge”. The album was due to be released this spring but has been pushed back and should be out this summer. I really like this single because it puts a new spin on a sample (Time of the Season – The Zombies) that is totally overused in the motion picture industry, but has really never been heard, to my knowledge, in the r&b-ish (I hate categorizing  music) realm of the music industry. Besides this being a good song, she can really sing; which we can all appreciate since that isn’t something that is a requirement for the industry.

Run DMC Shades

Gazelle'sFake

Real

Real

So I bought some RUN DMC glasses recently and I love them. It all started when I found this vintage looking, RUN DMC tee at T.J. Maxx for like $8. After that I was on this hunt to complete the look for reasons that escape me now. I couldn’t find white shell toes with black stripes in the stores for some reason and even though I have a couple pair, I’ve already customized them all. So I didn’t really get the total look I was going for, but I love my glasses entirely to much.

My glasses are Gazelle’s, a cheap knock off of the orginal RUN DMC shades by Cazal (even though everyone pronounces it with a ‘G’). Yeah, that’s right, I said mine are fake; don’t judge me. The real ones are vintage and called 607′s. They can cost anywhere from $200 – $400 a pair……So, I won’t be getting the real deals anytime soon.

I would like to get a Tecknicolor: Gazelle Pic campaign going to see how many people we can get to send pics me of themselves in these fly glasses. Who’s down?
